Centre-Back Hindmarch In Action During Derby’s Draw At Millwall In 1990

Pictured here is former Derby County defender Rob Hindmarch in action under the management of Arthur Cox during a 1-1 draw at Millwall on New Year’s Day in 1990.

The centre-back, who joined Derby from Sunderland in 1984 following Cox’s appointment as manager, spent six seasons at the Baseball Ground in total and racked up 196 appearances in all competitions.

Hindmarch, who scored ten goals in a Derby shirt, was a key part of the Rams’ rapid rise from Division Three to the top-flight in the mid-1980s.

The Northumberland-born defender appeared 39 times during the promotion campaign from Division Three in 1985/86 and a further 33 in the 1986/87 season as Derby recorded back-to-back promotions by claiming the Division Two title.

Hindmarch remained a key member of the side in the following three seasons in the First Division before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 1990.

He sadly passed away on 6th November 2002 after a battle with motor neurone disease at the age of 41.
