Derby County Football Club has today regretfully learned of the passing of its former player Peter Whittingham.
It was announced on Thursday afternoon that Whittingham had sadly passed away at the age of 35.
Whittingham spent a short time on loan at Pride Park Stadium from Aston Villa during the 2005/06 season.
During his spell with the Rams, the midfielder made 11 appearances in total before returning to his parent club.
Whittingham’s professional career saw him record just under 600 appearances at first-team level.
After coming through the youth ranks at Aston Villa, he had loan spells with Burnley and Derby, before embarking on a ten-year spell at Cardiff City.
Between January 2007 and the summer of 2017 he made 457 appearances in the Cardiff shirt, scoring 96 goals and assisting a further 91.
The former England Under-21 international went on to conclude his career at Blackburn Rovers and was part of their promotion-winning side from League 1 in 2017/18.
The condolences of everyone at Derby County go out to the family and friends of Peter Whittingham at this difficult time.
