Phillip Cocu hopes Derby County add some consistency to their game in terms of results as they approach the final ten matches of the 2019/20 Sky Bet Championship campaign.

Derby return to league action on Sunday afternoon, following their Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round exit to Manchester United on Thursday night, against Blackburn Rovers (3pm kick-off).

Cocu’s side will take on Tony Mowbray’s side on home territory looking to record back-to-back league wins for the third time this season, following an impressive 3-1 victory at Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday.

Consistency in Derby’s level of performance, particularly in recent months, has been clear to see the 49-year-old is happy with the progress his side is making as they steadily move their way up the table.

Cocu believes the next step in the remaining weeks of the season is to continue to improve their away form - and also maintain their impressive points return at Pride Park.

Speaking to RamsTV, Cocu said: “On two occasions in recent weeks we have shown we can get a good result in an away game.

“We have to make sure that if we can combine it with the good results we have had until now in the home games, then that is the way to consistency.

“We still have to do it and each game will be difficult.”

He added: “Blackburn are a team that are above us in the table, so for our target is to beat them and get closer to them.

“We work towards one game at a time and it will be a tough match. If we can show the football that we did against Manchester United, then we will have a chance to win it.”

Just ten games remain of Cocu’s first season as Derby’s manager after his appointment last July.

The Dutchman, however, wants to keep the focus on each match at a time rather than looking too far ahead.

He explained: “I don’t want to look at ten games as such, just one game at a time.

“We have to deliver a performance in every game, starting on Sunday.”
