There was no doubt in Jayden Bogle’s mind what he was going to do when he raced on to a through ball in the second half of this evening’s Sky Bet Championship clash against Stoke City at Pride Park Stadium.

With the Rams 3-0 ahead following goals from Martyn Waghorn, Chris Martin and an impeccable free kick from Wayne Rooney, Bogle was set clear with only Potters goalkeeper Jack Butland to beat.

And what came next was a sight to behold as he smashed the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box, giving Butland absolutely no chance to seal a convincing 4-0 victory over Michael O’Neill’s side.

It was his third career goal but his first at Pride Park and the defender could not hide his smile during his post-match interview with RamsTV.

“It’s been a long wait,” he admitted. “The lads have been on at me for not shooting in certain areas so I thought I would have a go and it ended up in the top corner. It's a proud day for me.

“Jack Butland is a very good goalkeeper and I thought if I hit it right and it’s in the corner then he hasn’t got a chance of getting near it. That’s where it went so I’m happy.”

The comfortable victory against the Potters was the perfect way to get over the disappointment of losing 3-2 at Luton Town on Tuesday night.

Derby have now only lost one of their last nine games and have now won four games consecutively on home turf.

“It was the perfect way to respond after that result against Luton,” he said. “We knew we had to put things right today and going into the end of the season, we need to put things right away from home but today was a special day for us.

“We all knew before the game that we needed to get an important result tonight and that’s what we did. We knew throughout training that we needed to work hard and focus and if you do things right throughout the week then you get the results.

“It shows the quality that we’ve got in the squad. We know that we need to stop conceding silly goals and I think if we do that then we will put a good run together."
