Derby County face their first away fixture of 2020 in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday when they head north to take on Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium (3pm kick-off).

Phillip Cocu’s side will be looking to pick up all three points against Boro to rack up their fourth win in a row in all competitions and complete a seasonal double over Jonathan Woodgate's side, following a 2-0 victory at Pride Park Stadium back in November thanks to two goals from Tom Lawrence.

TEAM NEWS…

Midfielder Krystian Bielik will once again miss out as he serves the final match of his three-match suspension for his red card in the 2-1 win over Charlton Athletic at the end of December.

Manager Phillip Cocu shuffled his pack for Derby's 1-0 win at Premier League side Crystal Palace in the Third Round of the Emirates FA Cup last weekend, which has now provided a welcome selection headache following a run of three wins in a row in all competitions.

Midfielder Tom Huddlestone is back in the fold after three months out with a hamstring injury and Tom Lawrence also made his comeback against the Eagles after missing the wins over Charlton and Barnsley either side of the New Year due to suspension, after racking up ten bookings so far this season.

Midfielders George Evans (calf) and Graeme Shinnie (hamstring) and forward Mason Bennett (ankle) remain sidelined, as does Ikechi Anya after he injured his calf in pre-season.

Otherwise, Cocu has a full squad to choose from and youngsters Max Bird, Jason Knight, Louie Sibley and Morgan Whittaker remain in contention after some impressive recent performances.

WHAT THE BOSS HAD TO SAY…

Speaking to RamsTV ahead of the clash with Middlesbrough, manager Phillip Cocu said: There will always be expectations increasing if we win games and that is not a negative thing.

“We cannot lean back and be happy with a few good results, there has to be stimulation to do even more and be better.

“The next couple of games, not only against Middlesbrough, are important because we play teams that are at the same level or just below us.

“We definitely cannot sit back and we have to show the same form and desire as we did before. With the support of the fans and the football we play now, it is possible to get the results we need.”

He added: “Middlesbrough have four wins in a row in the league, and a good draw in the FA Cup against Tottenham Hotspur, so they are in a good position and they are playing well.

“They are a hard team to beat; they don’t concede a lot of goals and they are organised so it will be a challenge.

“It won’t be easy but if we play a good game and show our best like we did in the last few games then we have the chance of a good result.”
