Derby County’s Graeme Shinnie and Henrich Ravas visited Willington Primary School on Tuesday afternoon with the Derby County Community Trust, who deliver several physical activity and healthy eating sessions within the school.
The duo were in attendance to support Year Five children in their ‘Move and Learn’ lesson and help them learn about the importance of a balanced diet and physical activity.
As well as taking part in the classroom and playground activities, they also met the whole school on their visit and took time out to go into each classroom to meet excited pupils and teachers and speak to children who were huge Derby County fans.
One child in Year 1 who had been struggling with coming to a new school receives a new sticker on his Derby shirt each day he comes to school without getting upset - and not only did he get to meet his idols but he also spoke to his favourite player, Jack Marriott, on the phone.
Jake Mann, Community Coach at the Derby County Community Trust, who was leading the ‘Move and Learn’ session, said: “The players were brilliant in the session and it was great that they went around the school to meet all the classes who weren’t lucky enough to have them in their lessons too.
“They were especially good with children who have been having some issues at school and were happy to take the time to talk to them and reassure them about how important education is.”
