Specialist First Team Coach Liam Rosenior has been in his new role with Derby County for just under a month and he is excited by what he sees both on and off the pitch.

The 35-year-old joined the club in July, leaving his coaching role with the Under-23s at Brighton & Hove Albion, and immediately flew out to Florida to join the staff and squad on their pre-season training camp.

That allowed him to see close hand the workings of new manager Phillip Cocu and get to know the strengths of the Derby squad.

So far, he has been impressed with what he has seen and believes the club are heading in the right direction.

“Meeting Phillip Cocu, Chris van der Weerden and Twan Scheepers, within half an hour, there was an instant connection in terms of the way I see the game and the way the manager sees the game,” he told RamsTV.

“There is complete synergy in that department. We all want to see the game played in a certain way, we all believe in that and also we are really passionate.

“That’s why I’m so excited because Phillip and his staff are so passionate about developing young players and that is key in any football club.

“Long term, this club is in very good hands and not only do we have the dream of being in the Premier League as soon as possible, but we want to do it in a way where we consistently stay there for a long period of time.

“You see a lot of teams go up and down with no long-term plan, I’m here because I believe in this long-term plan that Mel has put to me and the manager and hopefully I can play my part in that.”

It’s hard to disagree with Rosenior. His demeanour is endearing, and his passion oozes out of him. His measured approach earned him plaudits as a pundit on Sky Sports last season.

The Rams are in front of the television cameras this evening as they face Huddersfield Town, who were relegated from the Premier League last season.

It will be Rosenior’s first game in the dugout alongside Cocu and he expects it to be a tough start to the season against Jan Siewert’s Terriers.

“You want to start well,” Rosenior said. “We will go to Huddersfield with the intention of winning which we will do in every game this season whoever we are playing.

“With the quality we have in the squad, we are more than confident we can get a good result.

“I went to watch them last Saturday and they have a lot of good players. It’s not going to be an easy game at all.

“The manager has now got his six months where he knows his players and they are a really good team. I can see them being up there at the end of the season but in saying that, it’s the Championship.

“You can win or lose every game you play in and we need to make sure to go there full of confidence and hopefully get the three points.”

The full interview with Liam Rosenior will be available to watch live on RamsTV tonight during the Matchday Live show.
