The 2018/19 season will take some topping for central defender Fikayo Tomori.

Over 50 appearances, two goals scored and a Player of the Season award, the Chelsea loanee has certainly propelled his status as one of the most exciting up-and-coming defenders in England.

And what a season it has been. He has played key roles in memorable occasions for the Rams this season.

From the victory at Old Trafford against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup, to the Play-Off Semi-Final victory over Leeds United at Elland Road, the defender has been a stand-out member of Frank Lampard’s squad.

The squad was tight knit all season. A real bond in the dressing room showed on the pitch and a real affinity with the supporters was evident.

The 2018/19 season is one Tomori loved every minute of.

“It’s been the best 12 months of my career so far,” he told RamsTV.

“I’ve had the best moments I’ve ever had and probably ever will have. Some of the nights we have had and some of the games we have played, to finish it off with a Play-Off Final is fantastic but it would have been nice to get the win.

“This team is special, and we’ve had some special moments. We are all together and have a great team chemistry.

“In the changing room after the game, everyone was disappointed, but we are still smiling because we know how good we are and how well we’ve done.”

There was deflation in the dressing room following the Play-Off Final defeat against Aston Villa on Monday.

In rough times, however, the players came together for one final time.

“In that situation, it’s hard for the manager to find the words because everyone is so disappointed,” he said.

“At that time, it was everyone saying their piece about how proud they were, how happy they were to be in the team and it got a bit emotional in there.

“That shows the characters we have in the squad and in the dressing room. It’s been a fantastic year.

“We all ran for each other, we all played for each other, we all trained for each other and it’s been a great year.”
