Big players rise to the big occasion and striker Jack Marriott certainly did that as he netted a brace in the 4-3 aggregate victory over Leeds United in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Semi-Final.

He was introduced into the action in the final minute of the first half, replacing the injured Duane Holmes, and he made an immediate impact.

With his first touch he scored the equaliser on the night and sent the sides level at the break.

A goal from Mason Mount seconds into the second half and a penalty from Harry Wilson saw the Rams lead, but they were pegged back by Stuart Dallas’ second of the night after he opened the scoring early on.

However, with time running out, and Leeds reduced to 10-men, a through ball from Richard Keogh found Marriott who neatly lifted the ball over the onrushing Kiko Casilla to ensure the Rams secured their place in the Championship Final.

Derby have now set up a clash with Aston Villa for a place in the Premier League later this month and Marriott was elated at the full time whistle.

“It just shows what a good dressing room we have at the club,” he told RamsTV.

“The confident, hunger, desire to overturn a 1-0 deficit, and to score four goals away from home and to put on the performance that we did, was just incredible.

“Credit to the manager and the staff because they got us ready and we have proved it.

“This is the highlight of my career. What a feeling it is to get to the play-off final at Wembley and it’s incredible.

“Words cannot describe how I’m feeling now because what a game to do it in.”
