Derby County Are Going To Wembley After Defeating Leeds

Derby County are heading to the Sky Bet Championship Final at Wembley after defeating Leeds United 4-2 at Elland Road to win the Semi-Final 4-3 on aggregate.

The Rams made history as the first of 17 teams to lose the opening leg at home and come back to win the semi-final on the road.

Stuart Dallas opened the scoring for the Whites but a tremendous impact by Jack Marriott off the bench saw him level the score with his first touch.

With the Rams gaining momentum ahead of the break, they capitalised straight after the restart after Mason Mount danced into the area and coolly struck into the far corner. Harry Wilson then converted from the penalty spot to take the lead on aggregate.

Dallas stuck again to level the aggregate score before Marriott chipped in to send the Rams to Wembley.

The Rams came the closest in the opening stages when Mount’s free-kick from 20 yards out went over after a good break by Derby after Luke Ayling’s shot over at the other end ended in a challenge on Harry Wilson outside the area.

On the 15-minute mark Ayling had another go for the Whites when he jumped in in front of goal to meet Mateusz Klich’s cross, but again his effort was over.

In the 24th minute, the home side opened the scoring on the night. A long free-kick into the box was hit off the post and rebounded to Dallas to slot in.

Derby continued to press well, but with rare sightings of the goal until right before half-time. Harry Wilson directed his corner delivery into the area and it tipped to Mason Bennett at the back post who headed onto the post.

However, a minute later Marriott replaced Duane Holmes and made an instant impact. He drove straight forwards and a mistake at the back saw him slot into an empty net.

The Rams held the upper hand going into the break and picked right up where they left off. In the 46th minute Richard Keogh drove forward and found Wilson in space further up who quickly fed out to Mount. The midfielder waltzed into the area and his low effort brushed through into the far corner to level to score on aggregate.

Back-to-back blocks by Rams defenders kept Derby in the game ten minutes after the break. Jack Harrison was first to be denied by a Jayden Bogle on the line before Scott Malone got his body in the way from a second chance shot after Kelle Roos palmed an effort away.

The Rams extended the lead and took control of the aggregate score when Wilson tucked away his penalty effort after Mason Bennett was pulled down in the area.

The Whites levelled the aggregate score just minutes later when Dallas got his second of the night slotting in at the near post.

In the 78th minute, Berardi for a second yellow card offence after a challenge on Bradley Johnson. Wilson came so close to finding the winner with five minutes to go when he found himself behind the defenders and struck the post.

But it was Marriott who fired in moments later when he chipped the keeper to send the Rams to Wembley.
