Derby County Under-18s returned to the top of the Premier League – North table after a superb 3-1 victory over Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.
Rams midfielder Jason Knight opened the scoring in the first-half but Liverpool equalised through Bobby Duncan shortly after half-time.
A well-taken brace from Morgan Whittaker ensured Derby took the three points though and went top of the league again on goal difference.
After a bright start to the game, Derby took the lead after 10 minutes as Jason Knight slammed home a cross from Tyree Wilson after a good run from the latter on the left-wing.
Sam French was forced into action in the Rams’ goal to deny both Fidel O’Rourke and Abdi Sharif, whilst Knight and Liam Thompson had good opportunities to double the hosts’ lead before half-time.
Liverpool then equalised shortly after the break when Bobby Duncan turned home a low cross at the far post.
However, the Rams regained their advantage with 15 minutes left. A set-piece delivery was headed back across goal and Morgan Whittaker was on hand to turn the ball home.
Then just two minutes later, the winger made sure of the result when he found the bottom corner with precision from a free-kick just outside the area.
What’s To Come…
The Rams now sit in a healthy position at the top of the table and with a game in hand over Liverpool in second.
Next weekend, Justin Walker’s side travel to face Stoke City away from home and will be looking for another positive result.
A two-week break then sees their next game away to Sunderland on Saturday 16th March.
