The Derby County Community Trust today received national recognition as part of the EFL Day of Action as they appeared on BBC Breakfast to showcase the excellent work which takes place in their Active Choices and Active Recovery campaigns.
The EFL Day of Action is all about celebrating the work that all 72 EFL clubs deliver in their local communities and is a chance to showcase the range of projects that go on every day up and down the country.
Active Choices is a healthy lifestyle and behavioural change programme which helps people who have struggled with substance misuse issues, whilst Active Recovery is a cancer exercise and rehabilitation programme which works with anyone who has been recovering from or living with cancer within the last five years.
Participants of the programmes were on hand to talk about the benefits of the project as well as the effects it has had on their lives.
The hard work, however, did not stop there as the Community Trust later in the day brought together participants from across all their programmes who would not usually get the chance to take part in activities together and show how much they can learn from one another.
Taking part in the intergenerational games was:
- Local primary school children from St James’ Junior and Dale Primary
- Education trainees – currently part of a 12-week programme aimed for those currently not in education, employment or training
- Forever Active – our over 60s programme to increase physical activity and reduce risk of falls and the care home residents who take part in this programme
- Active Recovery – those who are recovering from cancer and partake in our cancer rehab/gentle exercise programme
Simon Carnall, Head of Community, said: “It’s been a fantastic day of celebrating the successes of our participants as well as sharing stories of achievement across the network of the 72 clubs, Trusts and Foundations who all work tirelessly to improve the lives of their local communities.
“At Derby County Community Trust, we are committed to changing lives through the power of Derby County Football Club, and today’s celebration is testament to just that.”
