Derby County fell to a 1-0 defeat to Millwall at Pride Park Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The re-arranged fixture due to FA Cup involvement saw just one shot on target which handed the Lions all three points although, the Rams remain just outside the play-off places in seventh.

Ashley Cole made his first start in a Derby shirt and his first on English soil since 2014.

Jed Wallace handed the visitors the winning goal in the second-half when a long ball found him with open space to fire into the bottom corner.

The Rams were in control for much of the first-half, owning almost 75 percent of possession within the opening 15 minutes. However, that came without much production up front.

Martyn Waghorn looked to grab the lead for the Rams after 20 minutes after Duane Holmes did brilliantly down the right flank to shake off his man and cross into Waghorn, but the forward ran out of space under the pressure of the Lions’ defence.

Waghorn eyed another opportunity when he was left open in front of goal and looked to acrobatically latch onto the end of a cross from the right again, but it was too strong.

The Rams looked more of a threat to open the second half with Richard Keogh flicking on a corner by Harry Wilson just wide before Fikayo Tomori played through Jack Marriott who beat his two defenders but could only get a weak shot off.

The visitors took the lead with their first and only clear-cut opportunity. Wallace was played through with wide open space in front of him to take his time and fire across goal and into the bottom right corner.

The Rams continued to dominate possession as they looked for an equaliser and pressure began to mount up in added time.

First Tomori’s header was parried by Jordan Archer before a strong strike by Florian Jozefzoon was deflected off target.
