Derby County duo Martyn Waghorn and Jack Marriott joined the Community Trust ‘Down Syndrome Active’ squad for a Friday afternoon session at Derby College last week.
Derby County Community Trust provide DS Active Football and Multi-Sports sessions for those with Down Syndrome from the age of five years old.
The current DS Active Football Adults Squad represent Derby County in DS Active National Leagues and play competitive fixtures against other DS Active clubs across the country including: Newcastle United, QPR, Charlton, Cardiff City and West Bromwich Albion.
Last Friday’s session was extra special, as first team players Marriott and Waghorn surprised the DS Active squad. The participants showed off their skills to the players and asked their burning questions.
Disability Manager at the Trust, Lauren Asquith said: “It was an outstanding experience for the DS Active players, having their two Derby County idols taking part in one of their sessions and answering their questions – they thoroughly enjoyed the night.”
