Derby County’s Under-23s will switch their attention to the Premier League International Cup on Friday night when they host Paris Saint-Germain at Pride Park Stadium, kick-off 7pm.
It is the first fixture of the group stage for Darren Wassall’s side, who will also come up against PSV Eindhoven and Manchester United and here, dcfc.co.uk has gathered all the information you need to know ahead of the clash with the French side.
TEAM NEWS…
There are no fresh injury concerns for Wassall and he will have a full squad to pick from. There have been first-team players that have made appearances throughout the season for the Under-23s, picking up valuable minutes and that could also be the case against PSG.
SETTING THE SCENE…
The young Rams will look to return to their winning ways on Friday night after recording their second defeat of the season against Manchester City. Derby fought back after conceding three early goals with Josh Shonibare and Max Bird finding the back of the net. However, they couldn’t find an equaliser.
Following the match, Wassall said he wanted more consistency from his side and stronger starts to the match, like what was seen the week before when the Rams defeated Everton 1-0.
Looking ahead to the cup clash against PSG, Wassall said: “It’s a great challenge for us all, players and coaches, coming up against the some of the best in Europe, but we will approach the game in exactly the same way.
“It’s well documented how much PSG have spent over the last few years, not just in the first-team but in their academy products too. It’s going to be a great test for us at Pride Park and one we are looking forward to.
“I’ve always maintained that we want to test ourselves against the best as much as we possibly can.”
HOW CAN I SECURE MY SEAT…
The Friday night fixture is free to attend at Pride Park Stadium at the East Stand from 6:30pm.
It is a great opportunity to watch the young Rams in action who have impressed this season already with victories against Everton and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
