Curtis Davies says Wolverhampton Wanderers will pose the type of test Derby County want and need as their big 2018/19 kick-off at Reading draws ever closer.
The Rams host Nuno Espirito Santo’s side at Pride Park Stadium (kick-off: 3pm) in what will be their fifth and final pre-season fixture, looking to earn a fourth win ahead of the return of Sky Bet Championship action.
Having faced Wolves twice last season – the most recent being back in April – Davies knows all too well the type of quality today’s opposition boast within their ranks.
Appreciating that it will be a tough game to end on, the 33-year-old also feels it will be the type of message the Rams need to see just where they are at ahead of their trip to the Madejski Stadium next Friday (3rd August).
“Even though we only played them a few months ago, they will have a few new players that will be looking to impress,” Davies told dcfc.co.uk.
“Ultimately, their season is starting as well, and those players will be looking to play for their places.
“We know how difficult it was against them last year, but with new players and a new hunger heading into the Premier League, we know it will be a tough game to end with.
“They are the tests we want. These are the types of games we want, especially as we build up towards that big kick-off at Reading.”
