Jason Knight’s stunning strike in Derby County Under-18s’ in the 2-0 win over Manchester City back in December 2017 has been named as the Premier League Under-18 Goal of the Year.

The Republic of Ireland Under-17s struck a sweet, first-time, strike from 25-yards that flew into the top corner of the goal at the Training Centre in partnership with the University of Derby.

The award was handed out at a Premier League Conference on Thursday after it was voted by Academy staff.

He beat Michael Obafemi (Southampton), Elias Sorensen (Newcastle United), James Rowland (Shrewsbury Town) and Ethan Galbraith (Manchester United) to the top prize.

As well as being a regular for the Under-18s during his first year as a scholar, Knight stepped up to feature on a number of occasions for Darren Wassall’s Under-23s squad that cemented their place in Premier League 2 Division 1 for a third successive year.

The midfielder has also recently been a key figure for the Ireland Under-17s squad during the UEFA Under-17s European Championships, helping them reach the quarter-finals where they were knocked out by Holland in a penalty shootout.
