Bradley Johnson has been named as Derby County’s PFA Player in the Community award winner for the 2017/18 season.
The 31-year-old midfielder has been a prominent player both on and off the pitch since signing for Derby back in 2015.
He has made a number of community appearances organised by the Derby County Community Trust during the season and has always shown a willingness to interact and engage with supporters.
One of these appearances took place at Derwent Community Library, where Johnson helped some reluctant pupils to understand the importance of reading across all aspects of the football world.
He then read to them from Reading the Game, a book centring on the importance of reading in football and beyond.
Outside of supporting the Derby County Community Trust activities, Johnson has made huge efforts, along with his wife, to raise funds for St Giles School, the only primary special school in Derby City, helping children with complex needs and disabilities to reach their full potential.
“After doing an appearance at St Giles School last season, I was blown away by how amazing the school and the teachers were in providing the very best possible care for the children, who all have different levels of special needs” said Johnson.
The school were looking to raise £37,000 to allow them to build a special games area so that their pupils can experience a whole range of sports and activities in a safe and fun environment.
To help with the fundraising, Johnson hosted a Derby County vs St Giles staff football match back in November, and a Black and Gold Gala at Pride Park Stadium in April, contributing thousands to the £37,000 target.
Both the Derby County Community Trust and St Giles School are extremely grateful for Johnson’s continued support.
