Derby County’s Under-23s face an away tie against Sheffield United or Ipswich Town in the Premier League Cup Round of 16.

Darren Wassall’s side secured their route through to the knock-out stage of the competition after four wins in six games in Group A, with 12 points enough to take top spot.

Highlights of the round came with a stunning 7-2 win at St George’s Park against Birmingham City, and a 2-1 victory against local rivals Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Sheffield United currently occupy second spot in Group E, and only a defeat by four or more goals against leaders Aston Villa in their final game would see Ipswich Town into the next round.

A date for the tie is yet to be set, but the Under-23s’ scheduled Premier League 2 – Division 1 fixture away at Tottenham Hotspur on Friday afternoon has been postponed due to the adverse weather conditions.
