Kyle McAllister is eager to build on his first outing in a Derby County shirt when the Under-23s take on Chelsea in Premier League 2 – Division 1 on Saturday at St George’s Park.

The Scot came on during the second half of the Premier League Cup Round of 16 tie with Sheffield United on Tuesday night to make his first competitive appearance for the club, over a year since he joined from St Mirren, with a persistent groin injury delaying his long-awaited debut.

McAllister was thrilled to return and having impressed out wide against the Blades, he’s now hoping to continue his progress as Darren Wassall’s side look to get back to winning ways after three successive defeats.

He told RamsTV: “It’s absolutely amazing, I’ve been waiting for a long time now since my last competitive game.

“I know what I can do, I might just not quite have the legs right now! Hopefully I can get a few more minutes against Chelsea and it’s a big game that we need to win.

“We are struggling a little bit in the league and it’s very close.

“Each of our last four games are really hard ones against tough opposition so we need to focus on that and hopefully we can get the results.”

The Rams took the lead against United at Bracken Moor but after Jayden Bogle’s dismissal, the home side scored twice – including a winner in extra-time – to secure their route to the quarter-finals.

McAllister felt that the outcome was harsh, especially considering the nature of the red card, but he saw positives that the side can take forward into their final four games of the season.

He said: “I don’t think it was a red card and it just puts you back a little bit.

“With ten-men you can’t push forward as much as you want to, and we had to deal with the game as it came.

“We came out and worked as hard as we could, especially defensively. We still had a lot of chances but we just couldn’t put them away.”
