Earlier this month, West Park School overcome 15 other sides to represent Derby County in the EFL Girls Cup.
Taking place at the Powerleague Soccerdome, the Girls Cup local final was hosted by the Derby County Community Trust, giving Under-13 girls teams from secondary schools across Derbyshire the opportunity to represent the Rams.
The wider scale of the competition sees all Football League clubs host a local final, winners of which will go on to regional competitions to fight for a place in the national final at Wembley ahead of the Checkatrade Trophy Final.
West Park played well throughout the day. After progressing through their group with four wins, victory against Woodlands and Noel Baker in the quarter and semi-finals set up a final fixture against Heanor Gate.
A strong performance and a 4-0 win booked West Park their place in the regional final, where they will take on other Football League clubs for a chance to progress to Wembley.
Following the success, Lauren Asquith from the Derby County Community Trust said: “It’s been a fantastic day, all the teams that took part have played in the right spirit and there has been some real quality on show.
“We look forward to taking West Park to the regional finals. We haven’t had a side reach Wembley in five years and if they continue to show the quality they did today, we could be in with a chance.”
