After making an impressive return to Gary Rowett’s starting eleven in recent weeks, Andreas Weimann is hoping to add goals to his game as Derby County get ready to travel to Barnsley on Saturday.

The Austrian has been named Man of the Match in two of the last three games at Pride Park Stadium, with two assists against QPR followed by another vibrant display as Burton Albion were beaten 1-0 last Saturday.

Weimann is still looking for his first goal of the season and he believes that the floodgates will open once he does get off the mark.

He told RamsTV: “I probably could have scored a couple of goals, but I’m obviously happy that I’m back in the team.

“I know that I can score goals, so I’ve got to keep trying and hope that one shot goes in, and I’ll be confident that I can then go and get a few more.”

The Rams won just one of their first four away league games this season but since the 4-1 defeat at Bristol City, Rowett’s side are now six unbeaten on the road.

Weimann explained that the run could be down to a change of gameplan, something that suits his style of play perfectly.

He said: “Playing away from home in this league is always tough, but we’re confident that we can go there and get another win.

“We’ve been to some tough places and got some good results so we’re looking good on the road, so hopefully this form can continue for as long as possible.

“We were maybe a little too open in the away games at the start of the season, now I think that we’re more compact and we know that we’ve got players that can hurt teams on the counter-attack.”

Aston Villa are the visitors to Pride Park a week on Saturday, and whilst the winger is cautious of looking too far ahead, he is hoping to feature against his former club for the first time.

He added: “I’m hoping that I will play on Saturday, I didn’t play against Villa last year so it would be nice to be in the team for that one.”
