Here is your Derby County lowdown on the best stories in the media from the weekend.
After the Rams' robust 1-0 victory over Burton Albion on Saturday, read what the media had to say over the weekend.
Russell Strikes Late For Derby Victory
Nigel Clough's return to Pride Park ended in defeat when a late Johnny Russell goal gave Derby a 1-0 win over stubborn Burton.
Sky Sports reported: “Burton looked like rewarding former Derby manager Clough with a point and denying their ex-boss Gary Rowett until Russell pounced nine minutes from time.
“Derby had given George Thorne his first league start in 18 months and the midfielder had a shot charged down as Burton set out to frustrate Derby.”
Gary Rowett Open To Loaning Players To Burton
Gary Rowett said he is open to helping Burton Albion out by loaning players from Derby County to the Brewers in January after watching his Rams side beat his old team 1-0 at Pride Park.
Richard Cusack from the Burton Mail wrote: “Albion slumped to defeat despite a spirited showing against a promotion-chasing Derby side , with Johnny Russell pouncing on Matt Palmer's touch to hammer home in the 81st minute.
“That was all that could separate the two sides, with the Brewers showing signs of what has made them so hard to beat on the road this term.”
Loan Watch
Derby County’s loan players endured a largely frustrating weekend of action.
Jonny Bonnell wrote for the Derby Telegraph: “Midfielder Craig Bryson was the first man to play, starting for Cardiff City in Friday night’s home game with Norwich City.
“While the 3-1 victory moved the Bluebirds to within a point of Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers, they had to come from behind to do so.”
