Andreas Weimann hopes that Derby County can continue to make use of their full squad after a series of decisive contributions from the substitutes bench in recent weeks.

Sam Winnall scored the winner at Carrow Road against Norwich City whilst Chris Martin also made an impact, with Weimann himself stepping into the action for the first time in a month against Leeds United on Tuesday to set up the move that led to Winnall’s match-winning penalty.

Gary Rowett is never short of options when he looks to his bench, and Weimann believes that squad depth is a key factor as the Rams look to extend their impressive run of form against Reading at Pride Park Stadium on Saturday, having won each of their last four matches.

He told RamsTV: We’ve got a really good squad, so someone is always going to be disappointed that they’re not playing but it’s a squad game and all of the substitutes are very important, as we’ve seen in the last two games.

“If you’re not playing then you can be down and disappointed but at the same time you need to be ready to come on and help the team.”

Derby haven’t lost since their 4-1 defeat away at Bristol City in mid-September, and Weimann sees that game as a key moment in the campaign after the Rams extended their unbeaten run to seven games in West Yorkshire on Tuesday.

He said: “We were disappointed after that game and we said that we needed to change a few things around. It looks like it’s all coming together, we’ve won four on the spin and hopefully we can carry on.

“We were a goal down away from home but we didn’t panic, we tried to play our stuff, we knew that we would get chances and when they came we were clinical.

“Gary has spoken to me a few times over the last couple of weeks, he wants me to take more risks and try and get past my man so that I can get crosses in.”
