Gary Rowett hopes the injury that forced Richard Keogh off in the early stages of Derby County’s 4-2 defeat to Reading isn’t too bad.

The Republic of Ireland international defender was replaced inside the opening eight minutes at Pride Park Stadium on Saturday.

Keogh, an ever-present in the Sky Bet Championship this season for the Rams, felt a problem in his quad, initially in the warm-up before also feeling uncomfortable in the opening exchanges of the game, and was replaced by Alex Pearce.

Speaking after the match, Rowett said: “He felt his quad a little bit in the warm-up but didn’t feel it was too bad.

“The first time he ran in the game he felt it again, so he came straight off.

“We are hoping it isn’t too bad - but Rich felt it enough to have to come off.”

He added: “As well as being a good defender, we missed Rich in a passing sense.

“He is the one who builds our possession so well from the back.”

Joe Ledley missed the game against the Royals with a hamstring injury.

Like with Keogh, Rowett hopes the midfielder's injury isn't one to cause serious concern.

He said: "We hoped Joe would be fit but it wasn’t to be. He was ruled out before training on Friday.”

As a result of the latest international break, Derby aren’t in action again until 18th November at Fulham.
