In his own words, it was a mixture of delight and relief for wideman Tom Lawrence after he netted his first goal in Derby County colours against QPR.
Under Pride Park Stadium floodlights, a slow first-half from Gary Rowett’s side was capped off with a superbly worked goal; Matej Vydra being the man to finish it all off after a fine assist from Andreas Weimann.
Just nine minutes after the beginning of the second half, Lawrence then stepped up to make it 2-0 courtesy of a well-placed strike in the bottom right corner from the edge of the box.
A number of chances to further his tally then followed for Lawrence, but getting that crucial first strike in Rams colours was more than enough.
Speaking following the conclusion of the game, the Welsh international told RamsTV: “It’s a bit of delight and relief to be fair!
“It’s always nice to get that burden off your shoulder and score that first goal. Having said that, it wouldn’t take anything away my game if I didn’t score.
“It’s just always a nice feeling to score.”
Lawrence added: “Not scoring hasn’t really affected me.
“Even though I’ve been eager to get off the mark, I don’t think it’s affected my game and I’m just happy to get that first goal now.
“I’ve been getting assists and I feel as though I’m in a good place with my football at the moment.”
As well as reflecting on his individual landmarks, Lawrence also took time to discuss his thoughts on the game as Rowett's side returned to winning ways.
And in particular, the wideman spared a though for Weimann, who came back into Rowett’s side last night and, in Lawrence’s opinion, gave a ‘great’ performance.
He went on to say: “I think QPR came here to frustrate us, because that’s exactly what they did in the first half.
“Luckily we got the goal at the end of the first-half and that settled us down.
“We showed our class second-half and dominated almost everything after that.
“It was two assists for Andi (Weimann). He’s had a good game here and I’m very grateful that he set me up.
“We need to keep this going. We’ve lost just one in ten and so we are in a good place, in good form and long may that continue.
“Ipswich are doing well, Middlesbrough are a bit up and down, but like I said, they are tough games and we will be looking forward to both of them.”
