Whilst his impressive his impressive streak in front of goal continues, Matej Vydra’s sole focus is on ensuring Derby County’s form maintains its upward trajectory ahead of tonight’s meeting with Queens Park Rangers.
The 25-year-old netted his eighth goal in all competitions as the Rams fought back from a goal down to earn a point at Fulham on Saturday.
The forward, however, was complimentary about the move that led to his strike and in particular the role that Tom Lawrence played.
“This goal is down to Tom Lawrence because he won the ball the back, did well to run past two players and then provided me with the assist,” he told The Ram.
“It was an easy chance to finish for me because the great work he did. It was perfect. Nuge (David Nugent) played his part because his movement created the space for me.
“When you have confidence, and have a gaffer right behind you, everything is perfect. I just try to do my best at the end of the day, it is always about the three points – never about my statistics. If I can help with my goals, both sides are happy.”
Back on home soil, Derby will be looking to back up their point in the Capital with a further three against Ian Holloway’s Queens Park Rangers side this evening.
Vydra feels that the run of form the Rams are on away from home – they are now five unbeaten – is meaning that they can go into matches at Pride Park Stadium with less pressure on their shoulders.
“It is hard to go to a place like Fulham,” the Czech Republic international said. “We took one point and now we are looking forward to this game with QPR.
“The run we are on, particularly away from home, is important for us. It allows to play without big pressure on our shoulders.
“QPR is not going to be an easy game – no game is at this level – but it is about us. We have confidence. We have only lost one match in eight and that is a big thing in the sense that it allows us to just go into the game and play our football and, hopefully, get another three points.”
