In the first fixture of the UEFA European Under 17 Championship Qualifying Round, Derby County first-year scholar Jason Knight featured for the entirety of the match, helping the Republic of Ireland to a 6-0 thrashing of Azerbaijan.
And in a game of many positives, the match against Azerbaijan also served as a major moment for the energetic midfielder himself, as he was handed his first start for Colin O’Brien’s side.
Knight, who joined Derby at the beginning of the season from Irish First Division side Cabinteely, has featured regularly for his nation from an early age and was previously named in the Under-17s’ September fixture which ended in a 0-0 draw with FYR Macedonia.
Respective games against Bulgaria (Friday 13th October) and Ukraine (Monday 16th October) now follow for The Boys In Green and Knight will be hoping that his impressive form will secure his place in the two upcoming tests.
