The Rams head to Blundell Park to get their Carabao Cup campaign underway on Tuesday night!
For the second successive year, Grimsby Town stand in Derby County’s way of a place in the second round of the competition and ahead of the match, dcfc.co.uk has pulled together all the key information you are going to need to know…
WHAT’S THE LATEST TEAM NEWS?
Gary Rowett has indicated that he is likely to utilise his squad when Derby County head to Blundell Park on Tuesday night.
A number of changes to the starting XI that drew 1-1 with Sunderland are likely to be enforced too after the Rams’ boss named four players that were struggling with knocks from the stalemate with the Black Cats.
He told RamsTV: “We will have some changes which will be enforced.
“Tom Huddlestone had about five bags of ice on his body after the game at Sunderland and with so many games coming up, you have to take these things into consideration.
“Bradley Johnson has had a few niggles with his ankle as well and Johnny Russell has a dead leg, so we have to be sensible.
“Craig Bryson has had an issue in his hamstring as well. The plan was to inject it after the Sunderland game and allow it to settle this week; so we’ll assess him but he possibly won’t be available so he can be alright for the next four or five games.”
The players that were on the substitutes bench are likely to come to the fore for Derby’s Carabao Cup fixture.
Rowett, the Derby manager, remains to be without Darren Bent, George Thorne, Jason Shackell and Max Lowe.
WHAT DID THE BOSS HAVE TO SAY?
Gary Rowett told RamsTV ahead of the trip on Tuesday: “Russell Slade is an experienced manager and I am sure he will know the value of knocking a Championship club out of the cup in the second game of the season, to build on their first match and create great positivity and belief.
“Kevin Summerfield went to watch them on Saturday at Chesterfield and his lad, Luke, came off the bench in the second half.
“We’re hoping we might get some inside information but I don’t think they’re talking too much at the moment.
“We’re aware that it won’t be an easy game. When you look at the League 2 teams nowadays there’s quality being forced down the divisions.
“That comes from the European and foreign signings in the Premier League.
“There are some good players in League 2 and we know we’ll have to be really focused.
“We’ll have to do a lot of things really well and defend strongly at times as I am sure they’ll put us under pressure.”
WHO IS THE PLAYER TO WATCH?
For a third successive season, Derby County will come up against a familiar face in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
It is likely that Ben Davies will line-up for the Mariners at Blundell Park on Tuesday evening.
Now 36-years-old, he faced the Rams last season when these two sides met in the competition, whilst he was part of the Portsmouth side that won 2-1 in August 2015.
Davies made 82 appearances – in which he scored two goals – for the Rams over three years before joining Sheffield United in 2014.
He then joined Portsmouth, where he was voted the clubs Player of the Year and was also in receipt of numerous other awards at their annual ceremony at the end of the 2015/16 season.
Now predominantly a right back, Davies played 26 times for Grimsby as they achieved a couple mid-table finish in their first season back in the EFL following their promotion at the end of the 2015/16 campaign.
Davies was also on the scoresheet at the weekend as the Mariners opened their season with a 3-1 away win over Chesterfield.

WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME WE MET?
DERBY COUNTY 1-0 GRIMSBY TOWN
Tuesday 9th August 2016
Richard Keogh marked his 200th Derby County appearance by scoring the winning goal as the Rams defeated Grimsby Town in the first round of the Carabao Cup last season.
The defender guided Craig Bryson’s deep cross into the back of the net at the far post as Derby made their second half dominance count at Pride Park Stadium.
Grimsby, back in the EFL following their promotion, threatened to take the contest into extra time as they piled on the pressure in added time with a series of corners, but Derby survived the onslaught to edge into the next round.
They faced Carlisle United in the second round – winning memorably via a record-equalling penalty shootout, before the Rams’ cup run was ended by Liverpool.
