Derby County’s Jamie Hanson has joined fellow Sky Bet Championship side Wigan Athletic on loan.

The 21-year-old Academy graduate, capable of playing in defence or midfield, has linked up with Warren Joyce’s men until the end of the 2016/17 season.

Hanson has made 27 appearances in total at first-team level for Derby since making his debut in March 2015, of which six have come in the current campaign.

The loan move will present Hanson with the opportunity to gain first-team experience and match time with the Latics to further benefit his career development.

Manager Steve McClaren said: “This is a great opportunity for Jamie to go out and play some competitive games.

“Wigan are a good club and I am sure he will benefit from the experience of spending the rest of the season there.”

Hanson will link up with a number of familiar faces at the DW Stadium as Wigan’s squad contains former Derby players Jake Buxton, Stephen Warnock and Michael Jacobs.
