Callum Guy has called on Derby County Under 21s to put their defeat to West Ham United behind them as quickly as possible and rediscover their high standards against Wolves on Sunday.

The young midfielder scored his second goal of the 2015/16 season, with Ivan Calero scoring the other, as the Rams fell to a 3-2 defeat to West Ham United.

The result saw the Under 21s’ unbeaten six game Barclays Under 21 Premier League run come to an end at Rush Green.

Guy admitted that the dressing room after the full time whistle was one of disappointment and highlighted that the side need to take advantage when they are on top in games.

Speaking to Rams Player HD after the game, the 18-year-old said: “The changing room, naturally, was full of disappointment after the game, mainly because the defeat ended what has been a very good unbeaten run for us.

“We have been playing so well since the start of the season, but our performance dropped a little last night.

“West Ham deserve credit as well, they battled well, but we have got to expect that from every team we face because of the position we are in.

“We went into the game top of the league and each and every one of us want to stay there, so we need to get back on track quickly and put this game behind us.”

He added: “We did well to get back into the game after a disappointing first half by our standards.

“On a personal note it was nice to get on the scoresheet, but after Mase (Mason Bennett) saw his header saved they scored when we were on top. That’s something that we have got to learn from and make sure doesn’t happen again.”

The Rams’ Under 21 group return to action looking to reignite their promotion charge on Sunday afternoon to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at the iPro Stadium, kick-off: 2pm.

On the game, Guy said playing at the iPro Stadium always provides a ‘great experience’ and has set his sights on setting the record straight against Wolves this weekend.

The midfielder said: “This is just a dip. Since the start of the season we have been performing to a very high standard and we expect nothing less from ourselves when we go into games.

“It’s a privilege to be at the top of the league, but now we are there and challenging at the top, we have got to work even harder to make sure that we stay there.

“You always get second chances in football. We have got a big game now at the iPro Stadium against Wolves.

“It’s a big stage for me and the rest of the boys and a great opportunity for us to get back to winning ways.

“It’s a chance for us to set the record straight. It’s always a great experience playing at the iPro and in front of our own supporters.

“We are always well supported when we play at the Training Centre and we have seen in the past that they turn out in their numbers for these games.

“The players enjoy playing in front of a big crowd and we’re all excited to get back out there on Sunday.”
