The funeral of legendary former Derby County player and manager Dave Mackay will take place tomorrow (Tuesday 24th March 2015).

The Club was saddened to learn of his passing at the beginning of this month at the age of 80.

The funeral will take place in Edinburgh tomorrow afternoon and Derby County will be represented by Chief Operating Officer John Vicars.

Scotsman Mackay joined Derby in 1968 from Tottenham Hotspur and went on to help the Club win the Second Division title in 1968/69 under Brian Clough, playing a key role by wearing the captain’s armband for the Rams and as a result he was named joint ‘Footballer of the Year’ in his first season at the Baseball Ground, along with Tony Book.

After leaving for Swindon Town in 1971, Mackay returned to manage Derby between 1973 and 1976 and guided the Rams to the First Division title 40 years ago in 1974/75.

Mackay also helped Derby to a Watney Cup success in 1970 as a player and also lift the Charity Shield in 1975 as manager, as well as guiding the Rams to the Semi-Finals of the FA Cup in 1976.

Mackay also represented Heart of Midlothian, Tottenham Hotspur and Swindon in his playing days, in addition to being capped by Scotland at full international level.

In a message via Heart of Midlothian, who have been making arrangements for the funeral, Dave’s family has been deeply touched by the messages of support since his passing and would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes.
