Striker puts pen-to-paper on new four-year contract with the Rams.

Derby County is delighted to announce that Scotland international striker Chris Martin has penned a new long-term deal with the Club.

Martin has put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal which will run until the summer of 2018.

The 25-year-old has firmly established himself as a key player at the iPro Stadium and he scored 25 goals in all competitions last season, which led to him winning his first-ever international cap for Scotland in May of this year.

He has taken his goalscoring form into the new campaign by hitting the net four times in six starts so far this season.

Martin is the latest in a long line of Derby players to commit their future to the Club, following in the footsteps of Jeff Hendrick, Craig Forsyth, Will Hughes, Jake Buxton, Craig Bryson, Mason Bennett and Jamie Ward.

Head Coach Steve McClaren commented: “I think it is fair to say that we are delighted Chris Martin has signed a new four-year deal.

“He is fast establishing himself as a top Championship striker and we’re convinced he can continue to develop too.

“He is the focal point of our attack but there is so much more to his game than scoring goals.

“He brings others into play and he is a real presence for us.

“We’re delighted he sees his long-term future at the Club.”

Derby agreed a deal to sign Martin from then Premier League side Norwich City in May 2013 on a free transfer after a 13-game loan spell at the Club during 2012/13.

The Norwich City Academy graduate made his debut as a substitute against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Carrow Road in January 2007, and went on to make 117 appearances for the Canaries, scoring 34 goals in the process.

23 of his goals came in their 2009/10 League 1 title-winning campaign, whilst in 2010-11 he scored for the Canaries in their 2-1 win at the iPro Stadium against Derby.

He also had a loan stint Luton Town in 2008, where he played a key role in their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy victory at Wembley, scoring in a 3-2 extra-time victory over Scunthorpe United.

The Beccles-born striker spent the 2011/12 season on loan at fellow Championship side Crystal Palace. He netted seven goals during his spell with the Eagles, two of which came against the Rams, while he also spent time on loan at Swindon Town in League 1 under Paolo Di Canio in 2012/13 before his move to Derby.
