Bruised foot forces striker out of Turkey friendly.

Derby County striker Jamie Ward has withdrawn from the Northern Ireland international squad to take on Turkey later this week.

Ward was due to team up with Michael O’Neill’s squad for the international friendly in Turkey on Friday 15th November 2013.

However, he sustained a bruised foot in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday and after being assessed by the Rams medical team he will instead remain at the Derby County Training Centre in partnership with the University of Derby for treatment.

The 27-year-old will have his condition assessed in the coming days ahead of the Rams’ next game, which is away to AFC Bournemouth on Saturday 23rd November 2013.

Ward now has nine caps to his name on the international scene and scored his first-ever international goal against Portugal in September.

The striker has been in fine form for Derby of late, scoring four goals in his last six appearances to help fire Steve McClaren’s side up the Sky Bet Championship table.
