Rams Head Coach cuts the ribbon at Codnor's new Sports Club.

Derby County Head Coach Steve McClaren helped open a new sports club in Codnor earlier this week.

McClaren cut the ribbon on Monday afternoon at Codnor Sports Club, which will host various activities for the Derbyshire community.

The building on Goose Lane in Codnor features changing rooms, kitchen and rooms suitable for meetings and sports groups.

Funding for the facility, which cost £500,000 to build, came as a result of a generous donation of just over £300,000 from the Football Foundation.

The rest of the money to fund the project came from the local parish council and other local initiatives.

The facility took nine months to build in total and will help host a number of sports for youngsters of all ages, including football and cricket.

Phil Moss, Chairman of Codnor Boys Football Club and Trustee of Codnor Sports Club, said: “The facility looks fabulous and it has taken a lot of hard work by a lot of special people to get to this stage.

“We were delighted and proud to welcome Steve McClaren down as our special guest to cut the ribbon and officially open the premises.

“We appreciate that Steve gave us some time out of his very busy schedule and it was brilliant to see so many youngsters so excited to meet him.”
