Rams youngster features in friendly win.
Derby County’s Adam Wixted came off the bench for the Republic of Ireland’s Under 19s as they defeated Slovenia 2-0 in an international friendly on Thursday evening.
In the second of team friendly matches between the sides this week Wixted, a member of Derby’s Under 21 squad, came off the bench at half-time as Ireland bounced back from losing 3-0 in Tuesday’s meeting at RSC Waterford.
Conor Whittle of Waterford United and Kevin Toner of Aston Villa scored the goals to hand Ireland the win.
The two friendlies this week were pencilled in as preparation for Ireland Under 19s’ trip to Sweden for the UEFA U19 Championships qualifying round next month when they meet Azerbaijan, Sweden and Bosnia Herzegovina.
Wixted is expected to discover if he has been named in Paul Doolin’s squad for those three matches later this month.
