Derby County’s Under-18s stormed to an impressive 4-2 victory at Middlesbrough in Under-18 Premier League - North on Saturday.

Danny Maye’s side went into the contest off the back of last weekend’s 5-1 rout of Wolverhampton Wanderers on home turf and unbeaten in their previous three matches in all competitions.

Derby fell behind after 26 minutes as Frankie Coulson put the home side in front, but striker Charles Ebuka Agbawodikeizu hit back to equalise ten minutes later.

Ebuka Agbawodikeizu went on to put Derby ahead 60 seconds later to turn the game on its head, only for Eric Hamelberg to get the hosts back onto level terms two minutes later in a dramatic ending to the opening 45 minutes.

Midfielder Owen Eames put Derby in front straight after half-time and Ebuka Agbawodikeizu went on to complete his hat-trick shortly after the hour mark to put the Rams in the driving seat.

No further goals followed as the Rams saw the game out well to pick up an away day success.

The Under-18s are back at Moor Farm Training Ground for their next Premier League - North outing on Saturday 1st March against Blackburn Rovers (12:30pm kick-off).

Derby County Under-18s: Price (GK), Richards, Stokes (Smith 63), Canoville, Marriott, Osayande (C) (Connor 69), Eames (Ward 63), Tola, Ebuka Agbawodikeizu (Mintus 63), Hodges, Oguntolu.

Substitutes Not Used: Rees (GK).

Post-Match Reaction

Reacting to the win, Under-18 Lead Coach Danny Maye said: “I didn't think we were at our best today but there were still plenty of positives.

“Middlesbrough played direct and did it well at times. This disrupted the game, and it took us a while to manage it.

“Once we started defending the space behind better, we grew into the game. In possession we weren't at our fluid best. However, we still had enough moments a quality.

“Some of our combinations and Jerome Richards’ one-on-ones caused them a lot of problems. The lads had some difficult moments but demonstrated their learning and managed the game much better late on. It was a very good win and pleasing to give three Under-16s more minutes and a debut to an Under-15s player.”
