Derby County fell to a 4-0 defeat against Queens Park Rangers in the Sky Bet Championship at Loftus Road on Friday night.

Ilias Chair struck an impressive effort from a distance to give QPR a goal advantage in the 21st minute, which Koki Saito doubled before the end of the half from close range.

Chair converted QPR’s third ten minutes into the second half before Ronnie Edwards’ header made it four in the 65th minute.

Jerry Yates looked to have pulled a goal back late in the match but the striker was flagged offside.

The match was John Eustace’s first at the helm after he joined the club as the new Head Coach on Thursday alongside Assistant Head Coach Matt Gardiner and First Team Coach Keith Downing.

Key Moments

Both sides struggled to take the reins of the game early on, but Lars-Jørgen Salvesen and Marcus Harness linked up on multiple occasions and looked lively in forward areas as Derby looked for an opening and looked positive in their play.

Sondre Langås did well to recover the ball inside the penalty box in the 13th minute; Saito looked to have got the better of the defender after some quick feet saw him dribble into the box, but Langås’ strength saw him claim back possession in a dangerous area.

Chair gave the hosts the lead after a curling long-range effort culed into the back of the net and gave goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterström no chance to save.

Ebou Adams fired over the crossbar in the 27th minute as the Rams looked to get back level. The ball bounced to him just inside the box and the Gambian international struck the ball on the volley, but couldn’t keep it low enough to hit the target.

Striker Michael Frey looked to double the Hoops’ lead in the 34th minute as he volleyed on the turn from 25 yards out, but the ball flew just past the post.

Saito did get the hosts’ second goal a moment later, though, as Chair’s cross into the box was parried into his path for him to finish from a few yards out.

Callum Elder fizzed a low cross into the box for Nathaniel Mendez-Laing to strike at the far post in the 42nd minute, but his stinging effort was blocked well by a Hoops defender who recovered well as the Guatemalan winger looked to have space to take the chance.

Eustace made the Rams’ first substitution at the half-time break with Tom Barkhuizen taking the place of Salvesen.

Hard work from Harness nearly forced a chance in the 56th minute as he gave the ball to Barkhuizen in the box, but his pass onwards couldn’t find the feet of Osborn, who was in space.

Chair netted his second and the home side's third after a clinical attack a minute later saw him make no mistake as he received the ball from a low cross at close range and converted.

The hosts’ advantage was further increased in the 66th minute as Edwards met Kenneth Paal’s free-kick delivery at the near post and headed the ball into the back of the net.

In the 67th minute Kenzo Goudmijn and Kayden Jackson entered the field of play, with Ben Osborn and Mendez-Laing departing.

Jackson sent a cross into the box for Barkhuizen to connect with in the 70th minute but the attacker was marshalled well by a QPR defender as he went up for the header and could only send the ball wide.

Goudmijn aimed for goal with a curving long-range effort in the 74th minute, but he couldn’t muster the power to threaten goalkeeper Pail Nardi, who caught the ball well.

After some quick forward play, Jackson powered a low cross along the face of the goal in the 82nd minute but Jerry Yates couldn’t find his footing to finish and the ball veered wide.

Yates thought he had claimed back a goal late in the game when he converted a cross from Harness on the right wing, but he was judged to be in an offside position when the pass was made.
