Derby County’s Under-21s went down 3-1 at Liverpool in Premier League 2 on Saturday afternoon.

Derby fell behind after 15 minutes as England Under-21 international Tyler Morton, who spent the last two seasons playing regularly in the Championship on loan at Blackburn Rovers and Hull City, put the home side in front.

Liverpool doubled their lead ten minutes into the second half through Tommy James Pilling's penalty.

Jake Buxton’s side did reduce the deficit with four minutes left as Riley Moloney scored from the penalty spot for his third goal of the week, after scoring twice in the 5-0 Central League win at Wrexham on Tuesday, but Liverpool hit back to restore their two-goal advantage soon afterwards through Trent Kone-Doherty to seal the win.

The Under-21s return to Premier League 2 action when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Matlock Town’s Proctor Cars Stadium on Monday 30th September (7pm kick-off).

Derby County Under-21s: J Thompson (GK) (Shattell 55), Bardell, Gill, Hawkins, Bartley, K Robinson, Perry (Stepien-Iwumene 55), Spencer (McAndrew 55), Allen, Agbawodikeizu (Cox 73), Moloney (Gough 90).
