Derby County cruised into round two of the FA Cup following a 5-0 victory over Torquay United on Tuesday evening.

Goals from Will Osula, Liam Thompson, Lewis Dobbin, David McGoldrick and an own-goal from Torquay centre-back Mark Ellis cemented a comfortable night for the Rams at Pride Park.

It means Paul Warne's side will now travel to League Two side Newport County in round two on Sunday 27th November (3:15pm kick-off). The fixture has been selected for TV coverage by ITV.

Major Moments

The Rams took the lead within the opening 10 minutes when Torquay defender Ellis headed into his own net.

Haydon Roberts whipped an inviting ball into a dangerous area and Ellis in an attempt to head clear, knocked the ball past Mark Halstead in the Gulls' goal.

The early goal settled Paul Warne's men down and they found themselves 2-0 up within the opening 15 minutes. A lovely interchange between David McGoldrick and Osula resulted in the latter firing home low and hard into the bottom corner to double the advantage.

After a nervous start the visitors did begin creating a few openings and Joe Wildsmith had to be at his best to first deny Aaron Jarvis with a superb save before tipping over a header from Lucas Ness.

But it was the Rams that made it three before the break. Osula did superbly on halfway to outmuscle his man, he played a delightful ball over the top to Thompson who cut inside and fired brilliantly past Halstead.

Following the break the Rams kept the pressure on and made it four in spectacular fashion thanks to Dobbin.

A corner was half-cleared and the ball dropped to the Everton loanee around 25-yards out and he unleashed a stunning first-time volley into the top right corner.

With 10 minutes remaining McGoldrick got in on the act to make it five and complete the rout.

Collins' shot was blocked inside the area and the ball fell kindly to McGoldrick who made no mistake - firing past Halstead from around 12-yards.

12 minutes of additional time were signalled at the end of the game due to an earlier injury to the linesman but the job was done long before and the Rams progressed comfortably into round two.

Attendance: 7203 (833 Torquay United fans)
