Derby County Stunned Wigan Athletic in the second-half to come from behind and defeat the Latics 2-1 at Pride Park Stadium.
An acrobatic wonder-strike by substitute Mason Bennett drew the Rams level after Gavin Massey’s first-half goal.
Scott Malone, the provider for Bennett, then turned in the winner when he rifled in Jayden Bogle’s deflected shot at the far post to hand the Rams all three points.
Frank Lampard made six changes to the team that faced Aston Villa on the weekend, but remaining at the heart of the defence, as he has done all season, was Richard Keogh who made his 600th career appearance.
The victory pulls the Rams level on points with Bristol City in sixth, however the Robins have the edge on goal difference.
The Rams opened the game looking lively and in control of possession. Despite getting forward well, they struggled to break down the Latics.
Martyn Waghorn found the back of the net first in the 23rd minute when he rolled the ball past Jamie Jones after being played through by Scott Malone, but the forward was adjudged to be offside.
Two minutes later, the ball found the back of the opposite net. Michael Jacobs hit back on the counter attack with Massey running with him down the right, who Jacobs squared to give Wigan the lead.
The Latics’ pair teamed up again moments later when Massey sent a cross from the right to far post where is was met by Jacobs header that was sent just wide.
Five minutes after coming on, a sensational goal by Bennett drew the Rams level. Scott Malone pinged a cross into the box from the left and Bennett’s acrobatic overhead kick fired an unstoppable ball into the top right corner with 30 minutes left to play.
Before the celebrations around Pride Park had finished, Derby were already looking to pull ahead with Duane Holmes bursting into the box and beating his man to cross into Huddlestone, but the midfielders shot couldn’t make it through the congestion.
Holmes then tried his luck from range which drew a strong save from Jones. With just more than ten minutes remaining, the Rams found the winner.
Immense pressure in the Latics’ area saw Harry Wilson cut inside to Jayden Bogle. The young right-back fired towards goal but his effort took a deflection and was met by Malone who rushed in at the far post to thrash the ball into the back of the net.
