Derby County Under-21s fell to a 2-0 against Woking in the National League Cup at the Laithwaite Community Stadium on Tuesday night.

The defeat brings down the curtain on Derby's involvement in the competition following the conclusion of the group stages.

There wasn’t much to separate the sides in the first half. The Rams had the ball in the Woking net, but the assistant referee's flag went up and denied Derby an opening goal.

Woking had a chance to take the lead on the half-hour mark through Lewis Walker, but his effort was stopped well by Harry Evans in the Derby net.

The second half saw the home side the more dominant of the two teams, with the Rams having to remain defensively solid as Woking had the majority of the possession.

The hosts almost broke the deadlock as the game entered the latter stages, but his shot was fired beyond the far post.

Woking eventually took the lead in the 74th minute as substitute Harry Beautyman’s effort inside the 18-yard box found the back of the Derby net.

The home side’s lead was doubled in the 89th minute through Dennon Lewis whose curled effort nestled in the far corner.

The Under-21s will look to get back to winning ways as they travel to Aldershot Town to face Reading in Premier League 2 on Friday 17th January (7pm kick-off).
