Head Coach Paul Warne praised Derby County’s ‘disciplined’ display as they earned a point in a 1-1 draw against Hull City in the Sky Bet Championship at Pride Park Stadium on Saturday.
The hard-fought point capped off a busy three-game week of fixtures, with fellow 1-1 draws against Millwall and Oxford United adding three points to Derby’s tally over course of eight days.
Striker Dajaune Brown netted his first senior Derby goal, shortly after coming off the bench, to claim the point against the Tigers - in his tenth senior appearance for the club.
Warne spoke to RamsTV after the Championship clash at Pride Park Stadium.
On picking up a point against Hull City…
We’d have taken a point after going a goal down, although I thought in the last 20 minutes we were having a right go. Hull are a very good side. They play out from the back, and we asked the lads to go man-for-man in defence. They recirculate it back to the goalkeeper, and if you go and press him, they just bounce it off you and you're in trouble. There was a lot of discipline in our performance today, which pleased me.
On a solid defensive display…
We limited them to few chances, although they had more of the ball. I'm just pleased with the character. I asked the lads to 'gas out' and you can see how tired they were at the full-time whistle. They couldn't play or run any harder than they physically are for this great club. So in that respect, I leave the ground really pleased. The lads give me everything they've got. Over the course of the game, a draw is a fair result.
On Dajaune Brown getting his first senior goal for the club…
I'm really pleased for Dajaune. He's trained well. I say to the lads all the time, if you want to get in the team then you just have to train well. He trained really well on Thursday. He looked strong and bright. I always had it in my head that he'd get on today. Hopefully, the goal is one of many and it will give him a real boost.
