On-loan Derby County attacker Tawanda Chirewa has been called up for international duty by Zimbabwe for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The 20-year-old made his first league start for the Rams in a 2-0 defeat at Sunderland on Tuesday night.

He had previously only started in Round Two of the Carabao Cup against Sky Bet League Two side Barrow in August after linking up with Paul Warne’s squad on a loan deal from Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Chirewa will join up with the Warriors’ squad for the duration of the international break, which runs from Monday 7th October to Tuesday 15th October, as they gear up for their Africa Cup of Nations double-header of qualifying matches against Namibia on Wednesday 9th October and Monday 14th October.

The ties will be played in the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Chirewa will be joined by fellow Sky Bet Championship players Marvelous Nakamba (Luton Town), Brendan Galloway (Plymouth Argyle) and Andy Rinomhota (Cardiff City) in manager Michael Nees’ squad.
