Derby County defender Kane Wilson admitted there was a feeling of frustration in the dressing room following the 0-0 draw at Wycombe Wanderers on Wednesday evening - but stressed the importance of remaining positive.
The Rams had the opportunity to create a four-point gap from third-placed Bolton Wanderers but were unable to convert a number of chances that fell their way at Adams Park, notably in the first half.
Despite that, they picked up a point and a clean sheet which could prove to be crucial further down the line.
Speaking to RamsTV after the match, Wilson gave his verdict on the performance.
His thoughts on the performance overall...
Disappointing, it wasn't our best. In the first half we probably had the better chances and probably should have scored one or two. In the second half we didn't really lay a glove on them and that's disappointing.
On whether they had the feeling like it was just 'one of those nights' after the missed chances...
Yeah, sometimes it is. The anxiety does start to build when you've missed chances but it's everybody's responsibility; it's not just the attackers. Sometimes it's just one of those nights but, in the end, maybe it's a good point because Joe Wildsmith made a really good save in the second half.
On whether frustration crept in after not being able to convert chances...
That's probably the perfect word, frustration. You need to win the game, you want to win the game and when it doesn't happen you start to get frustrated. You start looking inwards and we can't let that happen. We have to really dig in as a team now. We have three games left, nine points to play for, and we have to go for it.
On things feeling worse right now because of the stage of the season...
A point on the road in normal circumstances isn't the worst and Wycombe is a hard place to come and you take it. If I'm being honest that's not my mentality, I think we should win and I'm disappointed we haven't. There is no point dwelling because it is gone, we'll look forwards and not in the rear-view mirror. It's on to the next.
On the importance of not getting too down after the result....
We can't get too down. Sometimes sadness and frustration isn't the worst thing because it can be a motivator in a different circumstance. There's no point dwelling, that's the most important thing. The lads have to put it to bed, move on and put it to bed on Saturday.
On the quick turnaround to face Leyton Orient on Saturday at Pride Park...
We'll be back in on Thursday and Friday dissecting that performance, recovering and getting ready for Saturday. We'll have all the Rams fans cheering us on and that's massive. Even tonight, they stayed there, they stuck with us and they clapped us off and we really appreciate that.
