Derby County's 2024 gets off to an exciting start as they welcome top-six rivals Peterborough United to Pride Park Stadium on New Year's Day (3pm kick-off).

The Rams closed out 2023 with a dramatic 3-2 comeback win over Oxford United last time out and will be hoping the new year can bring similar fortunes against the Posh.

In the lead-up to the game getting underway, dcfc.co.uk has brought together all the key information you need to know...

Team News

Midfielder Korey Smith (knee) and striker Conor Washington (ankle) remain out of action as they continue to recover from the injuries they sustained in November. Smith is due to return to training next week but Washington will remain out of action for the longer term.

Striker Martyn Waghorn (calf) will miss out once again but is set to return to training next week.

Long-term absentees Jake Rooney (knee) and Elliot Embleton (quad) remain ruled out of action.

Pre-Match Thoughts

Head Coach Paul Warne spoke to RamsTV following the dramatic comeback victory at Oxford United on Friday to preview the New Year's Day Clash with the Posh.

He said: "I think Peterborough are the best team in the league, currently. Their wide players cause problems for teams and they create loads of chances.

"They are really strong in a lot of departments and for us to beat them, we'll have to be at our best and hopefully we will be. I am sure it will be a game that people enjoy."

Defender Eiran Cashin spoke to RamsTV and reflected on scoring the winner at Oxford last time out and previewed the return to Pride Park Stadium to start 2024.

He said: "We can't get complacent. We need to keep our standards high in training, in the warm-ups and just doing everything right off the pitch to ensure we have the best chance."

Match Officials

Ross Joyce will take charge of the first game of 2024 for the Rams and will be assisted by Steven Plane and Christopher Ward. Scott Jackson is the Fourth Official for the match.
