Derby County striker Conor Washington believes the team really 'clicked' in the 4-0 win over Northampton Town at Pride Park Stadium on Tuesday night.
Washington scored once and assisted another in the convincing victory but the Northern Ireland international was most pleased with the overall performance of the team to pick up three vital points in Sky Bet League One.
Speaking to RamsTV after the game, Washington gave his verdict on the performance.
On the performance...
The performance was the most pleasing thing for us as a group. The results haven't been good enough over the last few weeks and I think against Exeter lasy Tuesday we showed at times how good we can be. I think tonight was probably our best performance, especially at home. It was nice to give the fans something to shout about.
On the response to Saturday's loss at Stevenage...
There was a feeling in the group that we needed a response but we've had it a few times already this season. We need to make sure we build on this now. We need to show we can do this home and away. We don't have to play like this every week but we need to be able to go to places like Stevenage and grind out wins. They are the places that will get you promoted.
On feeling more comfortable at home...
It looked like it clicked tonight. We need to build on this performance at home and take it into the FA Cup tie at Crewe on Sunday.
On his role in the team...
I was floating around probably more-so than I have done because there's players around you can move off of like Birdy, Nat and Barks and even Korey playing a bit higher up tonight. It was a relatively fluid front-line but you can be when we're dominating the ball like we did tonight. It was a real pleasure to play in.
On his goal and assist....
It was really nice. It was great movement by Birdy to be in there on his own for the first goal and it's always nice to score too. We need to make sure that we go back-to-back now and even more so over the next few weeks. We need to get back into the top six and take it from there.
