Derby County Head Coach Paul Warne believes the side 'could have performed better' as they claimed a 2-0 home win over Cheltenham Town - but the most important thing at this stage of the season is the three points.

That comes after the Rams returned to winning ways at Pride Park Stadium in Sky Bet League One on Tuesday evening thanks to goals from David McGoldrick and Lewis Dobbin.

Speaking to RamsTV after the game, warne gave his verdict on the performance.

On the game...

I think we'll play better but in fairness Cheltenham made it really hard and frustrated us in the first half. It was good to score just before half-time.

We could have scored another couple of goals, which would have settled the stadium, but the second goal was a massive boost and to keep a clean-sheet is a bonus. You're going to lose football games, it's how you react and the lads came out tonight, performed physically better and we could have been better on the ball at times but it's just about winning games at this time of the season.

On the side having a bit more bite tonight...

We stopped their counter-attacks pretty well but in fairness Cheltenham's press was very similar to Barnsley's and they pressed really fast which made us pick the wrong pass at times but generally speaking we made more good decisions than bad.

To win 2-0 on the back of the performance at the weekend at Barnsley is good and sets us up for a really tough game at the weekend against Shrewsbury.

On David McGoldrick...

He set one up and scored one - he's essential. You need your strikers to chip in with goals and currently we're not still amazing on set-pieces.

I thought Lewis Dobbin was one of the outstanding players tonight but Didzy's overall play is really good and makes us a better team so long may it continue.

On being back at Pride Park on Saturday...

To play another home game is good and then we're on our travels again.

Hopefully we can play a little bit better on Saturday against Shrewsbury because no disrespect but the opposition are a little bit harder and we'll have to be right at it.

They are a really strong team, really good at set-pieces and we'll have to be very good on the ball and off the ball.
