Derby County Academy goalkeeper Jack Thompson has been named in the England Under-17 squad for the UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifying round.
Thompson, who turns 16 later this year, has played five times for the Rams’ Under-18s this season.
The Young Lions travel to Georgia to take part in a four-team group, with the aim of progressing to the elite round of qualifying in the spring and the eventual goal of reaching next summer’s Under17 EURO Finals in Hungary.
England’s Under-17s will kick off their qualification campaign against Lithuania on Tuesday 24th October in the Tbilisi Sea Technical Center Stadium (12pm kick-off BST).
That will be followed by a game with hosts Georgia on Friday in GFF Rustavi Academy (3pm kick-off BST), before the round concludes on Monday 31st October against Israel back at the Tbilisi Sea Technical Center Stadium (2pm kick-off BST).
There are 13 four-team qualifying round groups, with the top two in each joining top seeds Netherlands and Spain in the elite round, along with the four third-placed teams with the best records against the top two in their section.
Those 32 teams will then take part in the elite round of qualifying in the spring, hoping to join hosts Hungary at the 16-team Finals from 17th May to 2nd June 2023.
