Defender Eiran Cashin is hoping the 2022/23 campaign will be one of progression on a personal basis after signing a two-year contract extension with Derby County.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international defender, who shone at the end of last season for the Rams, has put pen-to-paper on a fresh contract which takes him to the summer of 2024.

Cashin, who made his Derby debut against Blackpool in December 2021, finished last season’s campaign strongly as he made 18 appearances in total.

He scored his first senior goal in Derby’s final away outing of the campaign as he headed home from a free kick to secure a 2-0 victory over Blackpool.

Here are some of the topics discussed in his interview with RamsTV.

On Signing His Contract…

I’m delighted to finally get it all sorted. There has been a lot of uncertainty around the club with players, staff and fans so it’s nice to get it all sorted. Now the deal is signed, I can relax a bit and get my head down and work hard and focus on the season to come. I’ve been here since I was six and seven years old, officially signing at 11. I have been here for ages, so Derby feels part of me. I’m just happy to be here and to get the deal done.

On Friday’s Takeover News…

I’ve been checking Twitter for months now and the one time I fall asleep, I wake up and the deal has been done! I woke up to a few messages to say the deal had been done and I was delighted, mainly for the fans because they have been through a lot so thankfully we have something to enjoy.

On Last Season…

Everything at Derby is a rollercoaster but it was nice to personally finish strongly. I thought I did well in the first team and it was a shame about what happened in terms of relegation, but now we can put that behind us, kick on and try to get back into the Championship.

On Playing For Republic of Ireland Under-21s This Summer…

It was an honour to make my debut for the Republic of Ireland Under-21s and qualify for the play-offs. That was something which we’ve never done in our Ireland Under-21 history, so that was good and I think we go home and away to Israel in September so hopefully we can qualify for the Under-21 European Championships.

On Proving Himself This Season…

I am delighted to get everything done and sorted but ultimately that means nothing. I’ve got to get my head down and keep working hard. I’ve got a lot to improve on and I’m not going to get ahead of myself. With the coaches here and the experience around me, I’m going to use them as much as possible to get better.
